UTRC (Used Tyre Recycling Corporation) is a new national tyre recycler. Based in Stawell, UTRC is investing $10M over the next 12 months in a state-of-the-art recycling machine that is using patented technology based around a tyre pyrolysis technique. Its first objective is to reduce the 9 million stockpile of tyres that have been there since 2008. One of the recycled resources from the process is activated carbon black with a potential emerging use being anodes and cathodes used in energy storage solutions such as the latest technology batteries.
Importantly, there will be zero emissions and minimal noise from our used tyre recycling machine.
