On January 16, 2025, the industrial continuous oil-based rock cuttings pyrolysis recovery production line equipment independently developed and manufactured by DOING Holdings was successfully delivered and completed trial operation, and the first phase of the oil-based rock cuttings pyrolysis project of Shandong customers in China was officially put into production. The production line has a daily processing capacity of 50 tons and an annual processing capacity of 18,000 tons, successfully producing high-quality, high-value-added recycled oil, slag and other products.

Oil-based cuttings produced by oilfield drilling are waste materials formed by the interaction between drilling fluid and formation rocks. They contain oil, drilling fluid additives, cuttings particles and pollutants, and are oil-containing solid wastes. Because of the high oil content, they have the properties of hazardous wastes and need to be treated to an oil content of less than 0.3% to meet the standards to avoid soil and water pollution. The core goal of its treatment is to recycle drilling fluids and minimize environmental impact.
Oil-based rock cuttings from oilfield drilling
The preheated oil-based cuttings are sent to the pyrolysis equipment for heating, which promotes the pyrolysis reaction of the oil to generate volatile small molecular hydrocarbons, reduce the amount of oil, and the generated oil, gas and remaining slag can be recycled, reducing secondary pollution and realizing the recycling of resources and energy.

It can not only recover the oil phase resources in oil-based drill cuttings and realize resource utilization, but also is applicable to all types of oil-based drill cuttings. The residual sludge, wastewater and waste residue generated during the treatment process are small, and there is almost no secondary pollution. The oil content of the residue after pyrolysis is less than 0.3%, which meets the standard of harmless landfill, and the residue can be used for building materials, road construction materials, concrete fillers, etc.

Reducing water content: Before the oil-based rock cuttings enter the pyrolysis furnace, the centrifuge dehydration process is used to reduce its water content to about 4%, and the centrifugal force generated by the high-speed centrifugal drum is used to separate the liquid and solid phases in the solid-liquid mixture.
Preventing coking: The pyrolysis equipment is equipped with a mechanical decoking device-energy ball to improve the dispersion and heat transfer efficiency of the material, remove and prevent coking. At the same time, additives such as quicklime can be added to reduce the liquid content, break long-chain hydrocarbons, solidify heavy metals, and reduce the yield of acidic gases.
Anti-corrosion design: In view of the high pH value of oil-based rock cuttings, which reaches 14, it may affect the service life of the furnace, so the furnace material is upgraded to stainless steel.
